Dear Parishioners,
We had a big funeral this morning. The church is closed the rest of today for cleaning.
We actually went over capacity, reaching 135 people. We won't let it happen again. We'll make sure only one entrance is open at a time. Greeters will direct people to where they can sit. We'll make sure we reserve enough pews for the family. Once we reach capacity, no one else will be let in. People, this pandemic is serious.
I was saddened to see many local people behave badly. Some wore their masks on their chins. Others tried to move ropes. Others didn't care about sitting with people not from their household. Many did not maintain a six foot distance. I would say there were three kinds of reasons for these behavioirs:
1) Most did so due to ignorance. We will do a better job helping them.
2) Some scoffed at the pandemic, not believing it's real. We just had someone call and say the pandemic is a big scam. I don't know what more I can do about those in denial except to continue to pray and share information in these Flocknote messages.
3) A few people seemed extremely prideful and selfish. I was horrified when I looked in their eyes and saw such hubris. This requires prayer and fasting. Please join me in praying and fasting for them.
Please pray for me. When I see people at risk, I will take action. People have and will get angry when they don't get their way. Some will flat out lie. I've seen this before and expect to see it again.
God love you,
Fr. Jim
